Intro to Goldsmithing: Level 3

Challenge yourself with a more elaborate design and create a stack of rings in under 4 hours! Not only will you learn new techniques, but you’ll also get to discover the different ways in which you can apply your newfound skill set from the previous two levels. Levels 1 & 2 are prerequisites to this class.


All classes under Studio 925 were designed and written for instruction by Janina Arias.


PROJECT

This project has three parts — a gemstone ring with bezel setting, and two rope/twist bands. Sounds like a lot of work, but taking the first two levels should equip you in taking on this exciting new project!


MATERIALS

• 20 gauge 14k or 18k yellow, rose, or white gold
• 28 gauge 14k or 18k yellow, rose, or white gold
• Round 14k or 18k yellow, rose, or white gold wire
  

TOPICS & TECHNIQUES

1. Recap of materials, tools and techniques covered in Levels 1 & 2
2. New technique for making ring measurements
3. Gold wire twisting technique
   

DURATION

4 hours with flexibility to extend to 5 hours
